Have you backed up your data? Did you un-hook any TSR programs which read
or write the disk? (Say "Yes")
.
This program, IAU.EXE, will measure, and then increase, the performance of
the hard disk in your computer. It works for IBM PC and compatible systems.
.
To make a selection from any of the menus, press the cursor left or cursor
right key, and a different key word is highlighted. When you move from one
highlighted word to the next, you will see that the description for each of
these selections changes. Thus you can explore all of the selections with-
out having to execute any of the options. Additionally, you may use the
"shorthand" method of pressing the key which is the same as the first letter
of your choice (press the "M" key for "Measure", etc.). Also, the HOME and
END keys will put at the first and last choice, respectively.
.
If you are a first-time user, here is the sequence to follow. Remember:
this is a powerful program (and potentially destructive to your data), so
this procedure will minimize your chance of problem (again - BE SURE YOU
BACK UP YOUR DATA!!!):
.1: Measure the current interleave of the test track.
.2: Determine the optimum interleave of the test track
.3: Change the interleave of ONLY the test track to the optimum value
.4: Measure (same as in step 1)
.5: If the new value measured is what you expected, change the interleave
on the entire disk.
.
If you had an error message while operating on the test track, there is a
possibility that the program will not work correctly with your system. If
you have problems, please call for assistance (assuming that you are a
registered user). Before calling, be sure
that you have all the information which will help us identify the type of
system you are using. This would include computer manufacturers name, disk
controller manufacturer, hard disk manufacturer and model number, version of
DOS, BIOS version, and anything you might feel would help us.
.FOR HELP call (508) 957-4551. My wife will probably be the one who answers.
Take it easy on her.
.FOR DATA send mail via Compuserve to [70441,2456], or Prodigy: PXJJ16A, or
PC-Link: DBushong
.
If you are about to call, think this over: The first thing I'm going to ask
you is "Did you back up your data?" If you have a wimpy excuse of an answer,
please prepare it ahead of time.
.
Registered users will receive unlimited telephone support. When you call, if
it is a lengthy problem, we'll call you back (on our dime). If you haven't
registered your copy, please re-read the manual which will possibly help you
determine the problem. If you don't have the latest version of the program,
please download it and then re-run the program before calling! The latest
version of IAU is always in the IBMSYS area of Compuserve, and if their line
is busy, call (New Hampshire) (603) 228-3820.
